Although the dreaded no-lookback provision does not come into play in first DUI cases, the Court supervision is often an option in these situations. The defendant pleads guilty, but the judge does not enter a finding of guilt at that time. Instead, proceedings are deferred for a few months while the defendant completes probation. If the defendant successfully completes probation, the charges are dismissed.
At that point, the DUI arrest remains on the defendant’s record, but at least there is no conviction, so the consequences are not quite as dire as they otherwise may have been.
